Arc Flash & Power System Studies · California

PE-Stamped Arc Flash Studies,
Done to IEEE 1584.

Arc flash hazard analysis for commercial, industrial, and critical facilities across California. Calculated per IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E, modeled in SKM Power*Tools, and delivered with equipment labels and a stamped report.

Methods & Tools

A Study You Can Defend

Recognized calculation methods, an industry-standard model, and a PE who signs the results.

IEEE 1584

Incident Energy Calculations

Incident energy and arc flash boundaries calculated with the current IEEE 1584 model, using the actual electrode configuration, working distance, and enclosure size for each piece of equipment.

  • Incident energy at working distance
  • Arc flash boundary for each bus
  • Multiple operating scenarios
  • Worst case identified and reported
NFPA 70E

Safe Work Practice Compliance

Results are presented the way NFPA 70E expects them, so your electrical safety program, PPE selection, and labels all line up with the study.

  • Shock and arc flash boundaries
  • PPE guidance by incident energy
  • Label content per NFPA 70E
  • Five-year review baseline
SKM Power*Tools

A Model You Keep

We build the system model in SKM Power*Tools from field data and utility fault information. You receive the model files, so future updates start from a verified baseline instead of from scratch.

  • Utility available fault current
  • Field-verified equipment data
  • Native SKM project files delivered
  • Ready for future system changes

What's Included

Four Deliverables, One Scope

Every arc flash study includes the supporting studies it depends on. Scope is confirmed in writing before work begins.

Short Circuit StudyAvailable fault current at every bus, with equipment interrupting and withstand ratings checked
Protective Device Coordination StudyTime-current curves, selectivity review, and recommended breaker and relay settings
Arc Flash Equipment LabelsPrinted labels with incident energy, boundaries, and PPE information for each assessed location
PE-Stamped ReportMethods, assumptions, one-line diagram, results tables, and recommendations to reduce incident energy

How Pricing Works

A Fixed Quote, Before Any Work

No hourly billing and no open-ended estimates. We scope your system, quote one fixed price, and that is the price.

Scoping Call

Tell us the facility, service size, and roughly how many panels and switchboards are involved. Free, and you talk to an engineer.

Fixed Quote

A written scope and a single fixed fee covering data collection, all three studies, labels, and the stamped report.

Data & Modeling

We collect equipment data on site, obtain utility fault information, and build the SKM Power*Tools model.

Report & Labels

You receive the stamped report, printed labels, and the model files, with a review call to walk through findings.

Common Questions

Before You Call

How much does an arc flash study cost?

It depends mostly on the number of buses (switchboards, panels, and disconnects) in scope and whether one-line drawings already exist. We quote a fixed fee after a short scoping call, so you know the full cost before committing to anything.

How often does an arc flash study need to be updated?

NFPA 70E calls for the arc flash risk assessment to be reviewed at least every five years, and whenever major modifications or renovations change the system. If you have an existing SKM model from us, updates are faster and less expensive.

We already have a study from another firm. Can you update it?

Yes. If the original model files are available we can start from them after verifying the data. If only the PDF report exists, we will tell you honestly whether an update or a new model is the better value.

What do you need from us to start?

The site address, a contact for access, and any existing one-line diagrams or prior studies. We handle the utility fault current request and the field data collection.

Do you install the labels?

Labels are included with every study. Installation can be added to the quote, or your facility staff or electrical contractor can apply them using the location list in the report.
